WhatsApp will soon roll out a self-chat feature, here is how it looks
WhatsApp is planning to roll out new self-chat features in the coming weeks.
The feature will allow users to send and receive texts, images, videos, and voice messages from their WhatsApp accounts. The chat will be encrypted and stored on a server separate from the WhatsApp app.
WhatsApp is testing the self-chat feature in beta
As of now, WhatsApp’s self-chats have been limited to a few hundred users, but the company has said it wants to expand them.
The feature will allow users to share photos, videos, audio files, and text messages via WhatsApp without having to first open the app.
WhatsApp is rolling out a self-chat feature, which will allow you to create video calls with your friends. The news was announced in a blog post on the WhatsApp blog, where it was confirmed that the feature will be available in beta form starting next week.
You can start recording a call by pressing the record button on your phone, or by tapping and holding the camera icon in WhatsApp. Once you’ve started recording a call, you can switch between the front-facing camera and the rear-facing camera by tapping on either one. You can also adjust your audio settings like volume and microphone sensitivity while recording a call.
The video chat feature will only work with select Android phones at this point—you can sign up to be notified when it becomes available to you here:

WhatsApp is introducing a new self-chat feature that will allow you to have group chats with your friends, family, or colleagues. You’ll be able to initiate a chat by sending a message to someone who has also added you to their contact list.
The new feature will allow you to hold conversations with people who are not in your contacts list, but who have also been added as contacts. It will include features like file sharing and video calls, although it remains unclear whether WhatsApp plans on rolling out the ability for users to initiate voice calls in this new format.
The new feature is currently being tested by select users in India before it becomes available globally within the next few months. WhatsApp is launching a new feature called “self-chats” that lets you send messages to your friends and family from your phone number.
If you have WhatsApp on your phone, you can already send messages to others with just the number in front of their names. But now WhatsApp is adding the ability to send messages from your profile picture so you don’t have to type out a whole text message—just select a picture of yourself, and then choose the person you want to message.
The feature will be available in beta form starting today, but users will have to download an update first. You can do that here:
