Tata to add up to 45,000 employees at iPhone parts plant in Tamil Nadu

Tata Group is planning to hire 45,000 employees for its new $500 million iPhone parts factory in Tamil Nadu. The company currently employs around 2,500 people at its Bengaluru-headquartered plant, which makes components for cars and rickshaws. With the addition of the new facility, Tata aims to produce 400 million parts each year by 2021. The company plans to have around 100 workers on the assembly line building each component on an assembly line in less time than it takes existing factories to make 100 units.

Tata is gearing up to add between 40,000 and 45,000 employees at its iPhone parts plant in Tamil Nadu by the end of next year. The company plans to ramp up production by 500 percent on an annual basis at the plant located in Rosebudpur Industrial Estate, Tiruvallur which was set up in partnership with Taiwanese company Wistron Corp.

Tata Group is expected to employ about 45,000 people by 2021 in its first iPhone parts plant in Tamil Nadu. The company said it will create 40,000 hiring opportunities at the facility, which is expected to start operations soon.

Tata Group, the flagship company of Tata Sons Ltd., and a leading global supplier of mobility solutions has announced its plans to establish a new manufacturing facility at the Alang-Sulphur railway station in Gujarat State. The plant is a part of Tata Group’ strategy to increase its production capacity and services footprint in India. It includes the development of new vehicle platforms and components such as aluminum wheels, chassis, body panels, and chassis sub-assemblies for customers across India.”

Tata will invest R500 crore in a new plant at Pune Spread, Kalyan Nagar to make iPhone parts. Now Tata aims to hire 45,000 new employees and open nearly 100 new stores in the next three weeks.

The company hired 45,000 new employees in 2014, with plans to hire an additional 1,000 every month for the next four years, according to a report by Reuters. The move is more evidence that the company’s unionization efforts are succeeding — Tata has lost several key executives over their support for workers’ rights.
