Tatas to acquire Bisleri for up to ₹7,000 crore

Tata is a multinational conglomerate based in India. It was founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata and currently has operations in more than 100 countries with over 100,000 employees. It is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India.

Bisleri is an Indian drinks company that manufactures, distributes, and markets beverages including juices, bottled water, and flavored water. It has a presence in the North-East region of India as well. The Tata group is exploring a possible acquisition of the Indian bottling and packaging firm, Bisleri. The proposed acquisition is expected to be worth ₹7,000 crores.

Bisleri is one of the largest companies in India that produces packaged drinking water, soft drinks, ready-to-drink tea, and energy drinks. Tata Global Beverages (TGB) is expected to lead the venture as it has been looking for opportunities in the segment. The company is also exploring other options like partnerships or joint ventures with other companies in the segment.

Tata Global Beverages operates in more than 100 countries with a presence in over 60 countries including South Africa, Australia, and Sri Lanka. It has three business segments: Consumer Staples (CPG), which comprises detergents and toiletries; Food & Beverage (F&B), which comprises canned foods; and Industrial Chemicals & Fertilizers (IC).

The company intends to buy the drinks business of Tata Global Beverages Pvt. Ltd, which has been operating since 2004 and employs about 3,500 people. The acquisition will make Tata Global Beverages a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons Ltd., the holding company of India’s largest listed conglomerate.

Bisleri was founded in 2005 and currently has over 1,000 employees and annual revenues of over ₹100 crores ($15 million). It has operations in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

Tata Group CEO N Chandrasekaran said: “We are looking at all possible options in the water business as there is a huge demand for it.” Chandrasekaran added that the company would also invest more in building its facilities for desalination plants and sewage treatment plants.

Tata group is planning to acquire the tea and coffee company Bisleri for up to ₹7,000 crores. The deal would give Tata the right to own 51% of the company’s shares, which are currently owned by a consortium of local investors.

The acquisition would give Tata control over one of India’s most important consumer brands. It also gives it access to a wide range of consumer products that could be sold under its brand name.

Bisleri is involved in making and selling tea, coffee, instant noodles, and other food products. The company has also been expanding its portfolio into other categories like cold drinks, snacks, and frozen foods with its recent launch of ready-to-eat breakfast meals under the Bisleri brand name.

The deal will be subject to regulatory approval in both countries. Tata Group, the Indian conglomerate, is making a move to acquire the water and juice company Bisleri for up to ₹7,000 crores.

The company has been planning this deal since 2016, but it’s only now that they have agreed on the price and terms of the deal. Bisleri is said to be valued at around ₹20,000 crores by Tata. This could make it one of India’s most expensive acquisitions ever.

Tata plans on taking control of Bisleri with a 51% stake in the company (it already owns 33%). The remaining 49% will be owned by existing shareholders.
