Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg fired over 11,000 employees from the company on Friday.
In a statement to reporters, Zuckerberg said that he was making the move because he was dissatisfied with Meta’s performance in recent years. The company had been struggling to compete with its main rival.
Zuckerberg said that he intends to focus on hiring and expanding in order to build a stronger business for Meta.

Zuckerberg said that it was a “tough decision” but it was necessary for Meta’s growth. He added that the employees who were let go will be given severance packages and other benefits.

The decision comes amid concerns that the company is struggling to generate revenue and keep up with competitors such as WhatsApp and WeChat.
But Zuckerberg isn’t worried about that kind of thing: he wants Meta to be an example for other companies, so he fired over 11,000 employees from Meta this week.
“This is not an easy decision,” Zuckerberg said during an investor call on Tuesday morning. “We want to make sure we’re aligned with our mission and values.”

In an interview with Time Magazine, he explained that he makes sure to hire people who are passionate about building something new and unique. “If you have an idea that’s really great and you don’t know if it will work or not, then you should just try it.”
