Amazon India, a subsidiary of Amazon Inc., has announced the appointment of Rohit Johar as its Human Resource Director.
Johar joins from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) where he held the position of Senior Vice-President, People Operations. He is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of experience in HR. Before TCS, he worked at GE Capital and American Express. He has also worked for McKinsey & Company and SAP India for five years each.
In his new role at Amazon India, Johar will be responsible for managing all company’s human resources functions including recruitment, employee engagement, training and development, compensation, and benefits.

Rohit joins Amazon India from Amazon Fashion, where he was Senior Vice President of People Operations. His previous experience includes roles at Microsoft and Google India. He has a degree in Computer Applications from IIT Mumbai and an MBA from IIM Bangalore.

He will be responsible for leading all HR functions including staffing, talent management, compensation, benefits, and talent development at Amazon India.

Johar has been with Amazon India since 2014, joining the company as vice president of human resources. He will be responsible for all HR functions at the company including talent acquisition, employee onboarding and development, compensation and benefits management, employee engagement programs, diversity and inclusion initiatives, organizational health and culture, employee relations, and other HR functions.
He has over 25 years of experience in the technology sector including roles at Microsoft and Microsoft Research India where he was responsible for leading hiring practices for Microsoft’s Indian subsidiaries. Johar also served as vice president at Accel Partners India where he was responsible for business development and growth strategy.
The new appointment follows a period of leadership change at Amazon India, following the departure of the company’s previous HR director, who left the company to pursue other opportunities.
Johar comes to Amazon India with a background in human resources, having previously held senior-level positions at both TCS and Infosys. He is expected to be responsible for leading Amazon India’s recruitment efforts and ensuring that the company’s employees can effectively contribute to its operations.
