The decision was taken by the government in the wake of a Supreme Court order which asked for the immediate removal of diesel and petrol vehicles with high pollution levels from Delhi. The Supreme Court had also directed the Centre to formulate a plan for procuring cleaner engines for all public transport systems in the national capital by 2023.

The apex court’s direction came as a result of an apex court bench hearing a batch of petitions filed by various citizens who have been complaining about high levels of toxic emissions produced by such vehicles at road intersections, highways, and in residential areas.

The bench had asked the government to formulate a plan for procuring cleaner engines for all public transport systems in Delhi within three months. Delhi government’s new decision regarding diesel and petrol

The Delhi government has decided to lift the ban on BS-4 diesel and BS-3 petrol vehicles from today. The ban was in place on January 1, 2019, but now it will be lifted to increase the availability of these two fuels.

The decision was made after a meeting between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the state’s transport minister Kailash Gahlot. Both had previously spoken against the ban, which led to an increase in pollution levels during winter months.

Here is all you need to know:

1) You can now buy any diesel or petrol vehicle from dealerships in Delhi but you must have a valid license.

2) If you are purchasing a car, you will need to pay Rs. 15 lakh as a deposit (which will be refunded after 6 months). If you are buying a bike, it will cost you Rs. 10 lakh as a deposit (which will be refunded after 6 months).

3) You will also have to show proof of insurance for both cars and bikes when purchasing them.
