Ecommerce company Amazon.com said on Monday that it will invest more than $974 million (1 billion euros) in electric vans, trucks, and low-emissions package hubs in Europe over the coming five years to make it easier to achieve net-zero carbon.
The retailer said the investment is aimed at making a significant contribution to driving innovation or technology in the transportation industry and will also help encourage more public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs).
The United States online retailer said the investment would help it more than triple its electric van collection in Europe from 3,000 vehicles to more than 10,000 by 2025.
The company did not yet say what percentage of its European last-mile delivery fleet is electric today but said those 3,000 zero-emissions vans delivered more than 100 million packages in 2021.
Amazon is on the move – and this time, it’s not with its famous delivery drones. The e-commerce giant has announced plans to invest over 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) in a fleet of electric vans and trucks.
Amazon just announced that it will invest over 1 billion euros in a new electric van and truck fleet. That’s a lot of money, but it’s a drop in the bucket for Amazon. It’s less than .001% of the company’s total net worth.
Still, this investment is important – it will help reduce Amazon’s carbon footprint and bring its transportation network into the 21st century. The new electric vans and trucks will also help create jobs and stimulate the economy.
Why Amazon Is Investing in This
You might be wondering why Amazon is investing in electric vans and trucks. Well, wonder no more!
The new fleet of electric vehicles will help Amazon move goods between its fulfillment centers, and will eventually replace some of the company’s diesel-powered vehicles. Amazon is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, and this investment is a major step in the right direction.
What Actually About The Future Of Amazon
So what does Amazon’s latest investment mean for the future of the company? We think it means two things: first, that Amazon is planning to heavily invest in electric vehicles; and second, that Amazon is planning to take over the world (again).
Electric vehicles are the newest technology expanded a lot in the future – there’s no doubt about that. And with Amazon leading the charge, the future is looking pretty bright for everyone. Not only will this help reduce Amazon’s carbon footprint, but it will also help them cut down on shipping costs. (And we all know how important that is to Amazon.)
So what’s next? A self-driving electric van fleet?
As an Amazon customer, you can do your part by making sure to recycle your old Amazon boxes. When you recycle your boxes, you’re helping to create jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It’s a win-win-win situation!
