September 14 every year is celebrated as Hindi Diwas across the nation, it is celebrated to promote the language as Hindi is the official language of India. Various programs are conducted in schools and colleges to celebrate the auspicious day of Hindi Diwas.
It still comes as a surprise to many that Hindi is quite popular in numerous countries like – Fiji, New Zealand, Singapore, and many others. This day is also celebrated to mark the birth of Beohar Rajendra Simha, he was born on September 14, 1916, and played a vital role in getting Hindi in Devanagari Script.
The first ever occasion of celebrating Hindi Diwas was back in September 1953, as the Indian Prime Minister at that time decided to commemorate this day as Hindi Diwas and it has been celebrated ever since. The struggle of getting Hindi accepted as the official language of India was led from the front by Rajendra Simha, and finally, on September 14, 1949, the Constituent Assembly accepted Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of India.
On 14th September, which is celebrated as Hindi Diwas, government ministries, departments, citizens, and nationalized banks receive awards such as the Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar and the Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar for their contributions to the Hindi language.
Rajbhasha Week, also known as Hindi Week, is observed from September 14 to September 21 to promote the Hindi language. Throughout the week, various events and competitions are held in schools, colleges, and offices with utmost enthusiasm.

1. Did you know that many English words like Avatar, Jungle, Guru, Karma, Mantra, Yoga, Guru, Bungalow, Loot, Pajamas, Shampoo, Thug, and many more are borrowed from the Hindi language.
2. Back in 1881 Bihar became the first state to adopt Hindi as its official language replacing Urdu. And following this many other states in the country started accepting Hindi as their official language including Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and many others.
3. Many might not know but Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world just behind Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and English. It’s also spoken in many foreign countries like
Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal.
4. All the letters of Hindi Varnmala “Alphabet” have their own independent and distinct sound thus making them distinguished.
5. Many might not know this but Hindi actually got its name from the Persian word Hind which means the ‘land of the Indus River.
